Growing up as a tall, painfully shy, skinny, black girl in Indiana never made me particularly popular. So I worked at being the sporty, nerdy, alternative black girl with a dash of snark. Books, movies, music and television were my escape, and still are. Maybe you were the short, skinny, black boy that tried hard to fit in by being different. You belong here too.
